Later on this month, on April 27th, the high school band along with the sixth and seventh grade bands will perform at their annual spring concert. The event will be held in the high school gymnasium and is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. While admission to the concert is free, the booster club will be accepting donations to help with extra band expenses and will be auctioning off a few baked items throughout the concert to raise funds. Following the concert in the high school cafeteria, the booster club will host a reception to honor the graduating seniors.
Since long-time band directors Dennis and Jo Ann Syring have announced their retirement at the end of this school year, the booster club will also host a reception in their honor on Sun., May 21, from 2-4 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The husband and wife team first joined Honey Grove ISD in 1999. They led three HGHS bands to the state marching contest in 2001 and a decade later in 2011, both with Beatles' shows; and a third time in 2015 with a "Planets" show. They narrowly missed another bid to state in 2013; however, that missed opportunity paved the way in 2014 for the band to earn one of the most prestigious music awards in the state: Texas Music Educators' Association (TMEA) State Honor Band.
The booster club hopes all current and former band students as well as family, friends, and fans will join them in saying farewell.
