We are preparing for the upcoming cross country season for the 2017-2018 school year. We will kick things off with two weeks of morning practices to help build up our base in preparation for the rigors that cross country running demands. These practices will begin at 7:00 each morning and will not last longer than our 8:30 cut-off time. Depending on what the day demands, we may finish early or we may go the full 1 ½ hour duration. Our first practice will be Monday, Aug 7th and all athletes will report to the high school weight room. Again, we will continue these practices for the two weeks leading up to school (Aug 7th – Aug 18th – Monday through Friday only). Once school begins, we will be prepared to make the transition into our general afternoon athletics practices.
I would also like to take this opportunity to share a little insight as to how I coach. I am a motivator through and through. Motivation is what inspires me in my personal athletic endeavors and goes before me in this profession. Athletes, if you are up for a challenge, you will find that we can meet those needs and elevate your performance on the course. However, if you are unsure about the sport or even unsure about your own capabilities, I want to invite you to give this sport a chance. It will be demanding, that is unavoidable. However, the demands do not have to exceed your capabilities. On the flip side, you may find that the capabilities you discover will be what inspires you to demand more from yourself.
As we settle into this season, you will find that I will encourage everyone to take ownership of much of what we will strive for as a team. I will have my own suggestions and advice, but the bar is yours to set both individually and as a team. So I suppose there is only one question that needs to be answered up front:
How good do you really want to be?
Come see us on August 7th and we will find out together.
