Both the middle school and high school cross country runners competed at district competition on Monday, Oct. 9th. Despite being small in number at the varsity level, three athletes qualified for the regional meet, which will be held Monday, Oct. 23, at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.
Not having quite enough for a team, three Lady Warriors represented HGHS: junior Amelia Butler and sophomores Allie Morrison and Abigail Rubio. Amelia finished in second place, qualifying for regional; Allie finished in seventh place, also qualifying for regional; and Abigail finished in 14th place.
On the boys' side, two Warriors ran for HGHS: senior Ryan Lipstraw and soph. Brandon Ramirez. Ryan finished in 11th place, and Brandon came in eighth, qualifying for regional.
Both the middle school boys and girls had full teams. The boys' team consisted of Nicholas Wolfe, 1st place; Jonas Butler, 2nd place; Nick Ottmo, 14th place; and Lucas Ordonez, 23rd place.
Representing the Lady Braves were Baily Clark, 12th place; Noemi Rubio, 14th; Cree Bass, 17th; Summer Young, 22nd; and Maddi Barnett, 24th.
The teams were coached by newcomer Lance Smith.
Congratulations to all the athletes and good luck at regional!
