Back-to-Back: Band Advances to State

Posted Date: 10/31/2018

Area marching contest

For the second year in a row, the Warrior Band has advanced to the UIL 2A State Marching Contest, which will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6th, at the Alamodome in San Antonio. At the beginning of the season, there were approximately 185 bands preparing their shows, and now only the top 17 remain. The band recently scored all ones at the regional marching contest in McKinney on Oct. 20th and again at area in Mineral Wells on Oct. 27th. The band is under the direction of husband and wife team James and Daisy Edwards. Their 2018 marching show is entitled “Phoenix Rising.”

Normally, a band can only advance in marching every other year, but since the addition of the 6A level of competition in recent years, UIL moved the 2A, 4A, and 6A contests to even years, and the 1A, 3A, and 5A contests to odd years. Honey Grove just so happened to benefit from this change and had the opportunity to qualify for state in back-to-back years.

The band will leave at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Mon., Nov. 5th. All three campuses will give the band a “send-off” as they depart.

The 2A prelims will be held on Tues., Nov. 6th, starting at 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Honey Grove is scheduled to perform at 9:15 a.m. See the complete schedule below. A link to watch a live stream can be found on the UIL website below.

If the band advances to the finals, they will be held Tues., Nov. 6th from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Congratulations, band, and good luck at state! #excellenceisfun
